'Circo Pobre' là dự án âm nhạc mới nhất của bộ đôi Passepartout Duo được thành lập bởi hai nghệ sĩ: Nicoletta Favari (dương cầm) & Christopher Salvito (bộ gõ). Tên gọi của dự án bắt nguồn từ một thành ngữ trong tiếng Chile mà hai nghệ sĩ vô tình biết được trong chuyến lưu diễn tại Nam Mỹ - 'circo pobre' <nghĩa đen: người diễn xiếc tội nghiệp> mô tả một tình huống đặc thù của đoàn xiếc lưu động khi người biểu diễn phải xoay sở trong mọi vai trò để hoàn thành show diễn: vừa là người dẫn trò, vừa là gã huấn luyện thú, vừa là kẻ đu dây. Nicoletta và Christopher ngay lập tức thấy cụm từ này quả là mô tả chuẩn xác cho thực hành sáng tạo của họ: bộ đôi vừa tự mình sáng chế những nhạc cụ và thiết bị âm thanh riêng, vừa giới thiệu chính mình bằng các tour diễn vòng quanh thế giới - tính tự chủ và linh hoạt ấy đã định hướng họ trong hơn 7 năm qua.

Circo Pobre tại Manzi là đêm diễn thứ năm trong tour diễn tại Việt Nam của Passepartout Duo. Tâm điểm của đêm diễn là “Chromaplane” - một nhạc cụ điện tử mới mà hai nghệ sĩ mới thiết kế năm ngoái. Với một cuộn cảm ứng điện từ trên tay, bộ đôi sẽ phác họa các hình dạng phía trên bề mặt phẳng của nhạc cụ để khám phá khung cảnh tiềm ẩn của các bộ dao động ngân vang trong trường điện từ.  Thử tiếp cận âm thanh theo cả góc độ không gian và thời gian, phần trình diễn có kết cấu gồm bốn phần hứa hẹn một chuyến thám hiểm bằng thính giác đầy cao trào.

THÔNG TIN VỀ NGHỆ SĨ ️🎶️🎶️🎶

Passepartout Duo được thành lập từ 2015 bởi nghệ sĩ dương cầm Nicoletta Favari và nghệ sĩ bộ gõ Christopher Salvito. Thực hành của Passeartout Duo xoay quanh cách mà chúng ta nghe và kết nối với âm thanh, thông qua nghiên cứu và lựa chọn bảng kết cấu điện âm (palette of electro-acoustic textures) và các nhịp điệu thay đổi hình dạng (shapeshifting rhythms). Liên tục đánh giá lại các công cụ để tạo ra một thứ âm nhạc của riêng mình, bộ đôi tìm cách mở rộng hệ sinh thái chuyên biệt và tự mình phát triển của các nhạc cụ thủ công, đa dạng từ các mạch điện tử (analog electronic circuits) và bộ gõ thông thường (conventional percussion), cho đến những sắp đặt tương tác kích thước lớn và thử nghiệm với các vật liệu tìm thấy.

Bộ đôi đã thực hiện những chuyến lưu diễn vòng quanh thế giới gần như liên tục trong 7 năm qua nhằm tìm ra phương hướng duy trì sự nghiệp âm nhạc độc lập và định hình mạng lưới nghệ sĩ và nhạc sĩ quốc tế, và cũng vì thế, những trải nghiệm “di chuyển khắp nơi” đã ảnh hưởng sâu sắc tới quá trình sáng tạo phi truyền thống của họ.

Passepartout Duo đã tham gia nhiều chương trình lưu trú như The Watermill Center (Mỹ), the Swatch Art Peace Hotel (Trung Quốc), the Rogers Art Loft (Mỹ), and the Embassy of Foreign Artists (Thuỵ Sỹ). Bộ đôi đã cơ hội được trưng bày và trình diễn độc lập cũng như góp mặt trong các dự án hợp tác liên đa ngành với nghệ sĩ khác, dự án của họ từng xuất hiện tại Casino Luxembourg, Nakanojo Biennale (Nhật Bản), Aarhus Artspace (Đan Mạch) và Bảo tàng Fanrong (Trung Quốc). Bộ đôi cũng đã được chọn vào danh sách nghệ sĩ của SHAPE+ Platform 2022-2023.

Circo Pobre is the latest project by Passepartout Duo - a contemporary music group from Italy established in 2015 by pianist Nicoletta Favari and percussionist Christopher Salvito. It was during the tour through South America that Passepartout Duo were introduced to the Chilean expression "circo pobre", a phrase that refers to a situation in which you might need to fill the shoes of presenter, tamer, and trapeze artist all at once in order to finish the show. The phrase immediately spoke to the duo's independent spirit: from making their own instruments to presenting the music itself, taking a self-reliant path has guided many of their artistic decisions.

This live performance at Manzi is the fifth show of the Duo's Vietnam Tour this year. The centerpiece is the Chromaplane, a new electronic instrument the Duo has created over the past year. With a pickup coil in each hand, the performers trace shapes above the instrument's flat surface to unveil its hidden landscape of oscillators buzzing in the electromagnetic field. The four parts are defined by taking both a temporal and spatial approach to the sound and create the arch of a listening journey.

Drawing from a carefully selected palette of electro-acoustic textures and shapeshifting rhythms, Passepartout Duo’s work investigates the way in which we listen to and connect with sound. Continually reassessing the tools they use to create their music, the group is continually developing a specialized and evolving ecosystem of handmade musical instruments that have ranged from analog electronic circuits and conventional percussion, to room-size textile installations and found objects. 

Looking for ways of sustaining an independent musical career and shaping an international network of artists and musicians, the group has been on a nearly continuous world tour ever since they began collaborating in 2015, and their experiences traveling have heavily influenced their unconventional creative process. 

Passepartout Duo has been the recipient of dozens of artist residency opportunities around the world including The Watermill Center (US), the Swatch Art Peace Hotel (CN), the Rogers Art Loft (US), and the Embassy of Foreign Artists (CH). Their multidisciplinary approach has also led them to exhibit both their own creations and their collaborations with fellow artists at venues such as Casino Luxembourg (LU), the Nakanojo Biennale (JP), Aarhus Artspace (DK), and Fanrong Museum (CN). 

The duo was selected for SHAPE+ Platform’s roster of artists 2022-2023. Passepartout Duo is formed by pianist Nicoletta Favari (IT) and percussionist Christopher Salvito (US/IT).
